Indication & Dosage
 
 
Oral
MASTOCYTOSIS
Adult:  200 mg four times daily. May double the dose if effect is not satisfactory within 2-3 wk.
 
Oral
FOOD ALLERGY
Child: 100 mg four times daily. May double the dose if effect is not satisfactory within 2-3 weeks.
Max Dosage:  40 mg/kg/day.
 
Oral
FOOD ALLERGY

ALLERGIC CONJUNCTIVITIS
Adult:

Instill 2 drops of a 4% soln 4-6 times daily or apply a 4% oint bid-tid.
 

Elderly:

 
Nasal
ALLERGIC RHINITIS
Adult: 2.5 or 5 mg of a 2% or 4% soln is admin as drops or spray into each nostril 4 times daily.
 
Inhalation
PROPHYLAXIS OF ASTHMA
Adult:

20 mg four times daily as dry powder/nebulised soln or 10 mg four times daily as aerosol, increased to 6-8 times daily if necessary, reduced to 5 mg four times daily once asthma has been stabilised. Additional doses may be taken before exercise.
 

Elderly:

   
Precautions Lactation, cardiac arrhythmias, hepatic or renal dysfunction.
   
Adverse Drug Reactions Nausea, headache, dizziness, unpleasant taste, joint pain and swelling, skin rashes, aggravation of asthma, pulmonary infiltrates with eosinophilia, urticaria. Bronchospasm, wheezing, cough, nasal congestion and throat irritation following inhalation of dry powder. Intranasal use: Transient irritation of nasal mucosa. Sneezing and epistaxis (occasional). Eye drops: Transient burning and stinging.
